Since then a patch has come out that fixed the issues, however. This port did have some technical issues when I was playing it (mostly framerate), so I had to set stick sensitivity all the way up for smooth shooting. The Switch Full Package version includes all the DLC, so it’s even easier to start destroying the police with a tank or competing in violent cartoon animal game shows. Strip your character nude and run around with a dildo bat. Whatever you think of the tone, the gameplay in Saints Row: The Third totally scratches that GTA itch without feeling like a lesser copy. It rides the Fast and Furious line of “good” bad taste. But there’s still enough surprisingly warm grounding in character that keeps it from becoming as annoying as later increasingly ironic entries in the series. The game is bursting with wacky shenanigans like auto-tuned gimps and parachute party slaughters set to Kanye music. Saints Row: The Third represents the perfect balance. Plus, it’s just one of several options to get your Grand Theft Auto open-world crime fix on Nintendo’s wholesome console. This is the Switch game for everyone who says Fast and Furious movies should go into space. Run at super speeds and jump up buildings like you were playing a Crackdown game. Play through unfinished versions of old Saints Row DLC. Reenact They Live alongside actual Keith David. Fight aliens inside virtual simulations of 1950s suburbia. Still, by fully detaching itself from realism even more so than the absurd, yet somewhat grounded, Saints Row: The Third, Saints Row IV has the freedom to do literally whatever it wants. It’s the same reason why the rerelease of Metal Wolf Chaos has a new layer of tragedy alongside the comedy of the president in a mech suit. Granted, when the game first released in 2013, the idea of the White House being taken over by ridiculous reality show gangsters was a lot funnier than it maybe is now. Among its many successes, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Opens in a new window) proved that AAA open-world games are a genre that play beautifully and make perfect sense on a system you can enjoy for both minutes and hours. However, ever since its launch three years ago, there has been one game I have been both wanting and expecting on Nintendo Switch: Grand Theft Auto. It’s the kind of cool random game I just never expected to want on Switch, a console where unexpected games are the norm at this point. Plus, the Monty Python-esque historical aesthetic is as silly as ever. There are lots of tactical decisions to be made in the quick rounds, like investing in cannons or catapults or picking a big slow rock vs a small fast one. Like its Game of the Year predecessor, Rock of Ages 2 is a deeply weird take on tower defense where players roll a giant rock to smash the opponent’s castle, while simultaneously protecting their own castle against the enemy rock.
